It’s that time of the year again, when our favorite actors and actresses gather on the red carpet to make their debut at Hollywood’s most prestigious night of the year. This year’s Oscars show was quite a performance. From jaw-dropping dresses, to a physical altercation, this year's spectacle was one that viewers will not forget anytime soon. While the Oscars celebrate the generation’s most influential actors and actresses, there is a select group of people, myself included, that tune in specifically for the pre-show red carpet fashion. Each year feeds the public eye with glamorous looks designed by the world’s most luxurious brands. This year’s theme, Movie Lovers Unite, allowed each star to interpret Hollywood stardom in a unique way, displaying a variety of designs, silhouettes, and colors on the carpet.
Demi Singleton
The first look immediately caught my eye. Designed by Miu Miu and worn by Demi Singleton, it was beautifully executed and designed. The intricate embroidery and embellishments, the soft lilac hue, and the minimalist accessorizing together craft this beautifully executed design. Singleton starred in the hit film King Richard, which was nominated for five Oscars and earned one.
Lily James
Lily James graced the carpet in a pink lace Atelier Versace gown. The silhouette of this dress accentuates all of the right places and is taken to the next level with a thigh-high slit and voluminous train. Lily James’ interpretation of this year’s theme showed off an elegant and timeless gown and she looks like a real-life princess. From her simple hair and makeup to the elegant jewels adorning her neck, the “Pam & Tommy” actress won my award for best red carpet look of the night.
Megan Thee Stallion
The rapper strutted into the Academy Awards wearing this magnificent Gaurav Gupta gown. Enhanced by hints of shimmer, a high leg-slit, and a vibrant train, Megan flowed effortlessly across the carpet. Megan tops this look off with Stuart Weitzman lace-up sandals and eye-catching sapphire jewels. The rapper used this year’s theme as inspiration to come alive as an ice-princess.
Timothée Chalamet
The Dune actor traded in his shirt for a shimmering yet delicately detailed lace blazer by Louis Vuitton, to the delight of his fans. Chalamet draws attention to non-traditional men's fashion and provides a prime example of what to wear to make the Oscars “best-dressed” list. He finishes off this iconic chic look with a long silver pendant necklace. Timothée Chalamet is the ultimate movie star, all he needed to do was show up and he would automatically nail the night.
While Demi, Lily, Megan, and Timothée dominated the carpet, a couple of stars made less than memorable appearances. Jada Pinkett Smith showed up as kale, Amy Schumer as a Christmas caroller, and Kristen Stewert graced us with a glimpse of her walk-of-shame home.
Whether you tuned in to the Academy Awards to see designer looks on the red carpet or to watch Will Smith rock Chris Rock, the night certainly delivered entertainment. The Oscars would not be the Oscars without the red carpet, which exposes movie-lovers to the stars of this generation. While this may not technically be the “main event of the night,” for us fashionistas, we are gifted an evening of our favorite stars wearing looks created by top fashion brands and designers, drawing attention to the glamour of Hollywood.
