During the height of the pandemic my 2 best friends, Ruby and Lila, and I decided to embark on an entertainment marathon of all 33 Marvel movies. Yes, 33 movies, over 2 hours each. With each movie, we found ourselves being drawn deeper into the astonishing Marvel Universe. We were infatuated with the plots, characters, and every storyline that was presented. After every movie, we would discuss everything that we had just watched in intense detail. What originally surfaced as a simple way to pass time transformed into an intense shared fixation.
When the pandemic ended we started taking our little obsession very seriously. We went to the movies religiously to watch the Thursday night premiere of every new release. Once we got a note that the tickets went on sale, adrenaline hit and we bought them immediately without fail. Going to the movies is something that we would look forward to. We would make this movie trip an adventure. This ritual became something regular. We would put on our pajamas, get a large popcorn, a candy, and most importantly a slush (emphasis on blue raspberry slushy).
I would like to say that the three of us were your ideal people to watch a movie with but, then I would be completely lying. We can absolutely not keep quiet. We went from laughing to hysterically crying and audibly gasping within minutes. Last year we went to the premier of Spiderman’s No Way Home and one would think: How could a Marvel movie cause so many emotions? But before we knew it, all 3 of us were hysterically crying over Peter Parker and Aunt May's final interaction.
One time Lila was at the store and saw a mystery Marvel figurine bundle. Without even a second thought, she got one for Ruby and I. Till this day my two little Iron Man and Hulk figurines are sitting on my desk as a reminder of Ruby and Lila and the tight friendship that will go on for years to come.
Tony Stark, In Avengers Endgame in one of his final scenes to display his love says “I love you 3000” to his daughter. Representing their love and affection towards each other. After watching this movie the 3 of us got matching “I love you 3000” rings to symbolize our unconditional love. The 3 of us are all across the country for college, but when I'm in class and glance down at my ring it reminds me of my 2 best friends and the bond that we share. It's not about the movies themselves but the bonding, conversations, and laughs that come with it. This tradition will forever serve as a reminder of our strong friendship and the memories we have made through this.
