My Path to PureBarre

In November of 2021, I walked into my first PureBarre class. My Mom and I were merely looking for a way to kill time; it was parent’s weekend, and we had already finished our traditional breakfast / M-Den ritual. I had taken barre classes before, but never at PureBarre.

In those 50 minutes, I grew obsessed with the style of a barre workout. I loved how I could complete a hard class—and feel proud of myself for it—without having to drip in sweat. After class, I ran up to the teacher and asked for a job application. I had no idea what I was doing; at the time, I was a first-semester freshman grappling with new classes, struggling to get the rest I needed, and had zero teaching experience. Regardless, I knew that PureBarre was a community I had to be a part of and, luckily, my soon-to-be boss saw that spark in me.

My training to become an instructor was far from easy. Initially, I missed two days of school to be on Zoom for a total of 18 hours with PureBarre corporate. In addition, I was by far the youngest in the room and became increasingly intimidated by the daunting task ahead of me.

The months that followed did not prove any different; I spent hours locked in my bedroom memorizing my class routine, early mornings and late nights at the studio practicing, and many times I had to convince myself to keep going.

Last March, I became certified as a PureBarre instructor. I will never forget that feeling of achievement—of knowing I accomplished something I was so close to giving up on. Today, PureBarre has given me an entirely new outlet of people, experiences, and memories I would have never had in college otherwise.

PureBarre has taught me the value of exercising beyond its obvious benefits. Being able to teach and, more importantly, make my clients feel better about themselves is the greatest gift a teacher can ask for. I love watching people push themselves and find new ways to challenge physical barriers with their bodies. I love watching people talk with their neighbors and make new friends just by being present in class. I love being the person to inspire others and help them know that they are capable of everything and more.
