They say, “People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime” and I undoubtedly can say that they are here for the rest of my lifetime. I am probably one of the only people who can confidently say they have made it through elementary school, middle school, and high school with the same friends.
Though so much has changed growing up, our weekends stayed pretty consistent. We found happiness in the small things that we got to do together. If you ask us our ideal Friday night we would all say the same thing: going to one of our houses, watching a movie, laughing, singing, and eating.
We've always been told that people admired the dynamic of our group. We never saw competition within ourselves; rather, we used each other as motivation. We all brought something different to the group. We’ve spent the majority of our lives together so we saw this as an opportunity to use each other as a support system throughout everything. We’ve changed, developed, and grown as people, but knew that we would have each other through everything. These 6 friends have proved, “good friends are there for you in your good times' '. Our friendships took priority over any other problem we may encounter.
We have embraced the good, bad, and everything in between that each one of us brings.
One thing about the 7 of us is that we make everything a celebration. We have been by each other's side throughout every moment, big and small.
I remember my friend Ava had been waiting to hear back from her road test results while we were at a school event, regardless of whether or not she passed we would all be by her side. She refreshed her page and all of a sudden we were all jumping and screaming for happiness. You would've thought the most amazing thing had happened. But we were all just happy for her and her accomplishment. We of course celebrated with dinner and ice cream afterwards.
We had always dreaded our senior year of high school. It was a time that was meant to be so exciting but the 7 of us feared this. We knew that it would lead to the inevitable: leaving each other. Since the senior year was such an intense time we knew things would get very competitive with each other, but we didn't see this as a time to turn this process into a competition. Instead, we celebrated every single one of the accomplishments we had acquired. Whether it was getting into our dream schools or a random safety. We knew how hard each other had worked for all of the schools that they got into and it was all 100% deserved.
Throughout my entire life, I have been a dancer and my friends have come to support me in the front row at all of my games and many of my performances. At the last dance competition of my senior year, all 6 of my friends showed up in the audience screaming and shouting while I was on stage to support me. It didn’t matter that the competition was 40 minutes away. They were all there for me.
Even while we are away at college we have adapted and mastered the art of long-distance keeping each other updated on every small detail of our lives. And counting down the days to breaks so we can spend time together again. No matter where life takes us, it will forever be the 7 of us.
