Say You Love Me

“Who in the group would most likely marry for money?”

It was unanimous: me.

What should’ve offended me rang true

I have enough

I have enough love in my life

It’s everywhere

It’s in the hours of conversation with my mom on the phone

It’s in the weekend trip to New York with my best friend

It’s in the walk home from a night out and stopping at NYPD for a slice of the mac and cheese pizza

It’s in the laughs with my friends in clinicals

It’s in the hugs with my roommate after a hard day

What a scary thing? To be so in love

To be so in love with this world that promises us nothing

No promise of tomorrow

No promise of consistency

No promise of the fair thing, the good thing, the right thing

“And I’m the kind of person

Who starts getting kind of nervous

When I’m having the time of my life”

I sit and stare at the clock and wait for my hour to come

For the storm to roll in

It’s happened before

It’ll happen again

But it’s inevitable, you see?

So why live in fear?

A question of when doesn’t make it any easier

All we can do is take shelter out in the open

With the things that keep us grounded

The love letter from your dearest friend

That moment when sun that casts its beams on my face and your first instinct is to put on sunglasses but you embrace it for just a little bit

“Say You Love Me” by Fleetwood Mac coming up on shuffle

The perfect over easy egg on toast

Your dad’s sweater that you slip on when your homesick

Let the world’s atrocities come beating down like pellets of rain

Let them hit our face and trickle down our necks

Soak into our hair, dampen our clothes

Because the warmth of this love

Whether complex or simple

Will dry it up to nothingness

It’s horrific to think that this is it

This is the life we’re meant to live

And there’s nothing we can do to change it

It’s beautiful to think that this is it

This is the life we’re meant to live

And there’s nothing we can do to change it
